Nutrient Agar represents the classic general-purpose medium containing peptone, beef extract, sodium chloride, and agar supporting growth of non-fastidious bacteria. This simple formulation provides essential amino acids, vitamins, carbohydrates, and salts without selective components, making it ideal for routine cultivation, maintenance, and enumeration.

Standard Protocol

Surface streaking or spread plate inoculation. Aerobic incubation 35°C, 24-48h. Examine colony morphology, pigmentation, size. Can be enriched with blood/serum for fastidious organisms.
