TSI Agar - Enterobacteriaceae Identification Classic

Triple Sugar Iron Agar slanted tube tests three carbohydrate fermentations (glucose/lactose/sucrose) with phenol red indicator plus H2S detection (ferric ammonium citrate) and gas production. Eight classic reaction patterns (K/A, A/A, K/K, etc.) plus H2S (+/-) provide definitive Enterobacteriaceae biochemical fingerprinting.

Critical Pathogen Differentiation

1. Salmonella: K/A or K/NC + H2S+ (most), gas+

2. Shigella: K/K, no gas, no H2S

3. Proteus: K/A + H2S+, vigorous gas

4. E. coli: A/A, gas+
