XLD Agar - Advanced Enteric Pathogen Medium

Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate Agar xylose fermentation, lysine decarboxylation (differential red slant), H2S indicator (black colonies), and selective agents (deoxycholate, sodium desoxycholate) provide superior Salmonella/Shigella recovery vs SS Agar. Coliforms inhibited, sucrose fermenters pink, true pathogens yellow/red-black colonies.

Enhanced Pathogen Recovery

1. Salmonella: Red/yellow colonies ± black H2S centers

2. Shigella: Red colonies (xylose -, lysine +)

3. Providencia: Red slant/pink butt (lysine decarboxylase +)

4. Edwardsiella: H2S+ black colonies
